Emerging Security Technology and Effective Service Provision in University of Jos Library, Nigeria

Abstract

The study examined the emerging security technology and effective service provision in university of Jos library, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design. The population of the study was made up of both professional Librarians and paraprofessional staff of the library. Simple random sampling was used to select the respondents. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation were generated on all the research questions. One hundred (100) copies of questionnaire were administered to professional librarians and paraprofessional staff out of which a total number of 98 copies were duly completed and returned, representing (98%). The findings showed that that mutilation was the highest security challenge been confronted by the University of Jos Library; thesis/project/dissertation, books and journals are susceptible to mutilation. It is recommended that libraries should install the various security devices like CCTV cameras, RFID and Barcode Scanners to secure their resources from theft or mutilation. The university of Jos Library should sensitize its users on the danger of mutilations being carried out in the library
